Chandel, September 28 2014:
Civil societies of Chandel including CNPO and ANTA in a statement have called on NERCORMP management authority and Chandel district administration today demanding recruitment of local NGOs and inclusion of Chandel Block in NERCORMP III .
A joint statement issued in this regard said preference must be given to the local NGOs within Chandel district during the selection process scheduled from October 1 .
The inclusion of Chandel block in the NERCORMP project would provide a big scope to the Chandel populace at the juncture when the district is facing major problems of unemployment.
Recruitment of local candidates, it added, would solve the problem of unemployment to some extent.
As such it is highly expected that NERCORMP management would follow the project's principle to achieve the aim of transforming the lives of the tribals by providing jobs to the local populace of the district.
Recruitment of local people with sound knowledge of local background would help NERCORMP achieve its objectives without much interference and obstacles.
Reacting to a speculation that few NGOs from outside the district have been shortlisted for interview against the wishes of the local people, the civil societies have threatened that they would launch various forms of agitation if selection authority fail to consider the wishes of the people.
Mentioned may be made that the CNPO on August 25 in a memorandum submitted to the then Governor of Manipur VK Duggal had appealed the Governor's intervention in inserting Chandel block under NERCORMP III .
