Chandel, September 28 2014:
Several civil bodies of Chandel have called on the NERCORMP management authority and the Chandel District Administration to recruit local NGOs for its project.
Organisations including CNPO and ANTA, in a statement also appealed to the management authority of NERCORMP for inclusion of Chandel Block in NERCORMP III which is implemented in the district.
A joint press statement issued in this regard said preference must be given to the local NGOs within Chandel district during the selection process slated for October 1 onwards and Chandel block must be included under NERCORMP III.
The statement further hinted that recruitment of local people with sound knowledge of local background would helped NERCORMP achieved its objectives without any interference and obstacles.
Reacting to speculations that few NGOs from outside of the district have been shortlisted for interview which according to the statement is against to the wishes of the people, the civil societies warned that they would launched any form of democratic agitation if the selection authority failed to consider and respect the wishes of the people.
It might be mentioned that the CNPO on August 25 last in a memorandum submitted to the then Governor of Manipur VK Duggal had demanded his intervention in including Chandel Block in NERCORMP III .
