Imphal, September 28 2014:
Non-intervention and complete silence of the AITC leaders even as two groups namely MPTC and MPTCC have literally bifurcated the party in Manipur have bred deep confusion among the people of Manipur, particularly the electorate of Hiyanglam A/C which is going to by-election on October 17, decried former MP Kim Gangte.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Kim Gangte said that she is still a member of AITC.
She said that she was appointed MPTC president on March 4, 2010 by AITC president Mamata Banerjee.
"I was never informed verbally or in black and white by the AITC president that I have been removed and replaced by Th Shyamkumar after the last Lok Sabha election", Kim Gangte said.
She was never consulted in connection with replacement of MPTC president.
Saying that MPTC was a unit of the AITC, the former MP maintained that she has no idea how the MPTCC came into being.
The growth of two parallel parties by the name of MPTC and MPTCC within AITC has resulted in a chaotic situation apart from creating a sharp division among the MLAs.
The question of the party's election symbol is even more confusing.
Nonetheless, she confided that the ECI and the by-election's RO would examine thoroughly and decide whether the grass and flower symbol should be allotted to MPTC or MPTCC.
Instead of patching up the division within the party, AITC leaders have been conveniently overlooking the internal crisis thereby aggravating people's confusion, Kim Gangte decried.
