Imphal, September 28 2014:
Several sit-in-protests were staged at different places today protesting the September 25 bomb blast which left two innocent persons injured and alleged subsequent thrashing and harassment of innocent people residing around the blast area by Assam Rifle personnel.
Protesting the blast and the action of AR personnel, Sabungkhong Khunjao Meira Paibee and Sabungkhong Khunnou Meira Paibee jointly organised a sit-in staged at Sabungkhong Keithel today.
Condemning the incidents Sabungkhong Khunnou Meira Paibee secretary L Memma appealed to the people who were responsible for the blast to stop disturbing the peaceful environment of the area.
This is not the first blast which shook the peaceful environment of the area, she added.
She further appealed to the concerned authorities to find out the responsible persons who were behind the blast instead of harassing innocent people.
Terming both the acts as shameful, she questioned the responsible people on their motive in exploding a bomb in public area.
While the people were still cuddled up in fear due to the blast, AR personnel under the shadow of investigation beat up many innocent people including one innocent student who was severely beaten up at his home to an extend that he could not even walk properly, she asserted.
Lamenting that the AR personnel, who were supposed to make the people more secure, made the situation worse, she appealed to the State Government to look into the matter seriously.
Meanwhile, similar sit-ins were staged at Gwaltabi Keithel organised by the Gwaltabi Keithel Mahila Mandal, Leimakhongmapal Meira Paibee Lup Complex organised by the Lup, Seijang Keithel organised by the Seijang Chaokhat Thourang Nupi Phurup and Yaingangpokpi organised by Yaingangpokpi Meira Paibi Lup.
The protesters put up placards which read as "We condemn bomb blast in civilian areas", "Don't deploy security forces who cannot maintain law and order", "We want peace", "Who triggered the Muirei Lamkhai bomb blast?", "Punish the guilty", "We condemn AR's excesses", "Stop harassment of civilians and let people live in peace" etc.
