Seminar on Sexual Harassment at Work Place for Rural Women begins

A two-day long regional level seminar on the topic 'Sexual Harassment at Work Place for Rural Women' being organized by Centre for Human Resource & Economic Development commenced today at Manipur Press Club here today.
The inaugural function was attended by M Sushilkumar, retd IGP; Ng Nongyai, former member of Manipur State Human Right Commission and A Mobi, editor of Manipur This Week (Sangai Express) as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honor respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Sushilkumar stated that ill treatment of women thinking that they are weaker than men is unacceptable as the role of women in building a strong society is pivotal and noted that indecent exposure of women body is one of the factors which attributes to crime against women and is punishable under law.
He asserted that right conduct, right thought, spiritual education and decent dressing could prove effective measures to curb crime against women including sexual harassment.
A Mobi said that the rate of women torturing women is much than men torturing women and stressed on the need for inclusion of women in enactment of law meant for curbing crime against women.
In the technical session of the seminar which was moderated by Dr Chongtham Noren, Guest Lecturer of LMS Law College; advocate Rakesh Meihoubam spoke on the topic 'In Depth Review of the Legal Framework & the Code of Good Practice on the Handling of Sexual Harassment Cases' while Dr N Santakumar Singh, secretary of Manipur Human Rights Organization deliberated on the topic 'Role of NGO for Sexually Harassed Women in State Context' .
