With the establishment of an Automatic Weather Station at Andro, under the initiative of a Hyderabad-based institute, agricultural activities of farmers of Andro and surrounding areas are set for tremendous boost.
According to Programme Coordinator of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Imphal East (Andro) T Medhabati Devi, the Automatic Weather Station was set up at andro in July this year with assistance from Central Research Institute for Dry Land Agriculture, Hyderabad.
Along with the setting up of the highly reliable Automatic Weather Station vital clues of weather conditions can be collected and studied to keep the farmers well versed on local weather conditions, said the programme coordinator.

The said station, with an aerial coverage range of 8 kilometres will be able to provide minute details on weather conditions which will consequently benefit the farmers by adopting agricultural practices most suitable to the local conditions, she said.
Informing the KVK, Andro was set up in 2005 under the Directorate of Extension Education of the Central Agricultural University, Medhabati explained that inputs from the Automatic Weather Station would be monitored by experts of the Hyderabad institute with the findings convey to the Andro station.
Moreover, training of local farmers would be conducted to enable them operate components of the Automatic Weather station, she added.
