World Disable Day observed

Along with observance of World Disable day, a month-long observation of "Handicapped Welfare Month" kicked off under the aegis of Handicapped Development Foundation, Manipur at Rup Mahal Theatre here today.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, K Radhakumar, DC of Imphal West, observed that the society we live in is meant for all human beings irrespective of caste, creed, religion, sex or physical disability.
So, we should never discriminate someone with differently able qualities.
They should be treated as equal like any normal individual.
Pointing out that a number of differently able persons have been selected in Civil Service Examinations, Radhakumar explained that they would be appointed as high ranking officers in different departments.
There are certain things which a differently able person can perform but a normal person cannot.
Presided over by Dr Ch Rupachandra, Chairman of Handicapped Development Foundation, Manipur, the function was also attended by Prof Chinglen Maisnam of Economic Department, Manipur University; Associate Prof Ph Brajayanti of NERIE (NCERT), Shillong; Thokchom Sumanta, member of Patsoi Zila Parishad and Ch Joykumar, ex-Councilor of ward number 7 as Guests of Honour.
Meanwhile, the World Disable day was also observed by the Welfare Association for the Blind, Takyel at Ideal Blind School today.
On the occasion of World Disabled Day Observance at Kuki Inn today, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam distributed 25 hearing aids and 20 wheel chairs to disabled persons.
The programme was attended by members of All Tribal Disabled Union Manipur (ATDUM) and organised by Tribal Affairs and Hills, government of Manipur.
While delivering his speech, Gaikhangam said that 15% of world population is disabled persons and encouraged the disabled persons not to feel awkward because of their physical stature.
Victor Keishing, Parliamentary Secretary, Tribal Affairs and Hills, who presided over the observance, said that normal persons have great responsiblity to see that the disabled persons are treated well.
Saikul constituency MLA Yamthong Haokip attended the function as a special invitee.
Talent shows by handicapped persons marked the programme.
Our Kakching correspondent adds: As observed around the globe, the International Day for Disabled was observed in Chandel and Thoubal district today.
In Chandel district, the observance was held under the aegis of District Social Welfare Office in association with District Programme Officer, SSA Chandel at Mission Blind School, Heikakpokpi with Horticulture Development Officer, Chandel Kshtri Nabakishore as Chief Guest.
Principal of Mission Blind School, Heikakpokpi presided over the function.
In Thoubal district, District Social Welfare Office, Thoubal joined hands with different NGOs in organizing the function at the hall of Regional Institute of Handicapped Persons, Thoubal.
Adhyaksha of Thoubal Zilla Parishad Kh Surnalata and Vice President of the institute, L Ibobi attended the function as Chief Guest and President respectively.
