Imphal, December 03 2012:
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has turned down the demand for judicial enquiry into the killing of Yanglem Naoba by unknown miscreants and the subsequent death of H Manichandra, who succumbed to the injuries received in police firing.
A 13-member delegation of JAC in connection with the death of Naoba and Manichandra met the Chief Minister at the latter's office chamber this evening and submitted a two-point memorandum.
The two demands of the JAC included assurance for a judicial enquiry into the death of the two persons and to identify the culprits involved in the killing and punish them according to the laws of the land.
The Chief Minister, however, refused to order a judicial enquiry but agreed to take up magisterial enquiry.
The JAC flatly denied the offer and he meeting remained inconclusive.
Meanwhile, post mortem on both the bodies were conducted at the mortuary of RIMS today and the video recording of the same were taken.
However, the JAC has declined to take back the body.
On the other hand, Thoubal District Authority has informed that the dead body of Y Naoba and H Manichandra would be cremated as unclaimed bodies if the family members concerned do not claim the bodies by 2 pm of December 4 and 2 pm of December 5 respectively.
