ERDO urges Govt to initiate healthcare and welfare measures for pregnant women, lactating mothers & children

Economic & Resource Development Organisation (ERDO) has appealed to the State Government to initiate healthcare & welfare measures especially for pregnant women, lactating mothers and children staying at the relief camps opened at various places.
Addressing a press conference today at Manipur Press Club, Nahakpam Santa, general secretary ERDO, informed that according to reports from District Child Protection Officers, about 151 pregnant women, 103 lactating mothers, 1408 children under the age of 6 years and 6014 children in the age group of 7-18 are taking shelter at 192 relief camps opened in Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching, Thoubal, Jiribam, Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts.
He continued that data of relief camps opened in Kangpokpi.
Tengnoupal, Ukhrul and Noney districts have not been available to the organisation so far.
Pointing out that the mental trauma caused by the recent communal violence to women and children cannot be taken lightly, he shared that it is essential to provide counselling, nutritious food and proper medical care to them.
Santa also mentioned that the relief camps providing shelter to pregnant women and lactating mothers should preferably be set up near healthcare facilities.
