One-day discussion programme held

Manipuri Schedule Tribe Demand Committee, Assam organized a one-day discourse on "Meetei community should be included in the Schedule Tribe List" at Gandhi Bhavan, Silchar today.
Prof Okram Churamani moderated the first session of the discussion while Prof N D Hodamba and Dr Kunjalal Yendrembam read out papers on the topics "Why Manipuri (Meetei) is demanding Schedule Tribe Status in Assam?" and "Gift of Manipuris to Assam, particularly from its historical perspective ".
During first the session of the discourse, Schedule Tribe Demand Committee also took many resolutions which include - extending cohesive support to the movement by the Meetei community residing in Assam; various Meetei organizations functioning in Assam should come together and formed a 'Coordination Committee' in connection with the movement; and to hold a public meeting relating to the movement at the earliest.
President Manipuri Schedule Tribe Demand Committee Assam Wangkhem Saratchandra, General Secretary Assam Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Prof Ngangom Basanta Kumar, President Assam Pradesh Manipuri Association Advocate Yumnam Nayan, President Assam Meira Paibi Apunba Lup A Lili, President Assam Manipuri Progressive Front L Tejomani, General Secretary Schedule Tribe Demand Committee Manipur K Bhogendrajit, General Secretary All Cachar Rajbangsi Students Union Gokul Barman and All Assam Manipuri Youths Association Advisor Ksh Kundal attended the discussion programme as presidium members.
