Daily sale goes upward of Rs 18,000: Fruit vendors

Fruit sellers of Minuthong area are making a kill in their business with daily sale raking in above Rs 18,000.Speaking to The Sangai Express, one of the fruit sellers, Sinam Anita, a resident of Kongba Nongthombam leikai, said the fruit selling business in the area to the north of Minuthong used to be the domain of non-locals, but ever since they left, six local women had continued the business in the area since the last two years.
The space for the vendors are on rent from Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) and the fruits are catered from two places, fruits coming through Moreh are collected from Nagamapal while those coming from Indian States are collected from Dharmasala and Kasturi bridge, she added.
She added that apples are sold at Rs 180-250 per kg depending upon varieties; grapes at Rs 300-500 per kg; bananas at Rs 60-70 per kg; sweet lemon (mosambi) at Rs 240 a kg; boroi at Rs 150 per kg; oranges at Rs 150 per kg; avocado and lemon at Rs 150 per kg and pomegranate at Rs 200-300 per kg.
The business has enabled the fruit sellers to look after the expenses of the families and education of their children, Sinam Anita added.
"It feels great to see locals coming up and venturing into the section of business which was considered a domain of non-locals", said a buyer.
