Imphal, February 03 2021:
Hospitals in the State will be observing relay hunger strike in the coming days against the Government's decision to allow Ayush doctors to perform surgeries, said Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch today.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) is observing an all India relay hunger strike from February 1 to 14 demanding withdrawal of the Gazette notification of the CCIM (Central Council of Indian Medicine) which allows Ayush doctors to perform surgeries after a 2 year training and MS (Tantra Shalya) .
The order allows Ayush doctors to perform about 48 different surgeries like amputation, cataract, cholecystectomy, tonsillectomy and various complicated surgeries, said a statement of the IMA Manipur State Branch.
Terming the order as a "highly unethical step of the Government of India" which would put the health of the public at great risk, it said the Government should explore ways to increase the infrastructure and the number of medical colleges and MBBS seats instead.
Ayurveda may be encouraged to develop its own way, however mixing of Ayurveda and allopathy will spell disaster.
Polypathy be encouraged but IMA strongly feels that Mixopathy should not be encouraged, it said.
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) and other private medical clinics will hold the relay hunger strike, added the IMA Manipur State Branch.
