Imphal, January 29 2014:
Transporters and Drivers' council (TDC) today declared that it has decided to withdraw the demand for investigation against the Principal Secretary (Home) Dr Suresh Babu, Director (Rehabilitation) Bobby Waikhom and Additional Secretary (Home) Yaiskul in good faith and facilitate further reconciliation between the parties in dispute.
Speaking to newspersons, TDC president H Ranjit said the Council deciding to withdraw demand for a probe against the bureaucrat trio is also on the basis of identifying the real truck owner who is supposed to get compensation for damage suffered by the vehicle during public service.
Inspite of TDC initially providing financial compensation to one Shahatbir, who claimed to be owner of the truck (MZ05/6156) burnt down in an act of arson, the said amount has been re-collected on being told by one Sabzuddin Lashkar that he owns of the vehicle and not Shahatbir as claimed at the time of submitting documents for compensation payment by the latter, Ranjit explained.
Further stating that another individual namely Md Anwar also pretended to be the truck owner and claim the compensation, the Council president also regretted that some more individuals tried to mislead the Council with selfish intention.
Announcing that the Council is planning to repair the Barak bridge on the Imphal-Jiribam road-line in February first week and recounting assistance extended by the Chief Minister and the Works Minister, Ranjit also expressed confidence that similar assistance would be provided by all concerned in the restoration of the important transport route.
