29th N Hazari and Dr N Tombi State Polo Tournament : Khurai PC ground Manipur Police (B) to lift trophy

Riding on a brilliant seven goal blitzkrieg from P Ojit, Khurai Polo Club out performed Manipur Police Sports Club by a margin of 10 goals to four to lift the championship trophy of the 29th N Hazari and Dr N Tombi State Polo Tournament played at Mapal Kangjebung today and emerge champion.
From the start it was the Khurai team all the way, with P Ojit sounding the board in the first chukker followed by P Jotin with another goal in the second chukker, while the Police team had no reply.
It was only in the third chukker that the Police team put up something of a fight to score twice, but even then, the Khurai team did not loosen their hold on the match scoring two more goals to maintain their comfortable lead of two goals.
For the Khurai team T Roshan and P Ojit found the target while for the police team, S Veheng and Th Romen sounded the board in the third chukker with one goal apiece.
In the fourth chukker, P Ojit was in his element, pumping in five goals in quick succession, to literally take the game beyond the reach of the Police team, which could reply with only two goals through T Pradeepkumar and S Veheng with one goal each.
Apart from the championship trophy, the winner walked away with a cash prize of Rs 30,000 while the runners up had to settle for Rs 20,000 .
Organised by the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, the final match was attended by PHED Minister I Hemochandra as the chief guest, MLA L Nandakumar as the president and S Buddhachandra Singh, honorary president of the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department Dr Saidokhum Joute and Smt Naorem ongbi Sanatombi wife of late Dr N Tombi Singh as the guests of honour.
