Fish farmers' training

Ukhrul, January 29 2014:
The district fishery office, Fish farmers' training cum demonstration programme at its office conference hall here under the sponsorship of National Fisheries Development Board.
Chief guest of the programme, TS Shimreingam AC, Ukhrul inaugurated the 3 days fish farmers' training programme.
He encouraged the fish farmers to put more efforts, compete in the fish market and promote the indigenous fish.
More than 25 fish farmers participated in the 1st batch training.
The basic methods of rearing fish as well as the fish farming technology in theory and in practical were imparted and demonstrated at the department's selected fish farm at Awontang, Ukhrul.
The course director Khamsing Ahum FO/CEO stated that the department has initiated to replace common carp with the better breed like amur common carp.
The indigenously available fish like tor species snow trout and semiplotus will be reared very soon.
He regretted that the district has no district level fish seed farm.
