Imphal, July 16 2013:
Senior advocate and president of All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA), Khaidem Mani today described the fresh advertisement by Manipur Government for recruitment of three district presidents of Consumer Disputes Redressal Forums (CDRF) as 'favouritism and corruption' .
Three persons have already been recommended by the concerned selection committee in an interview for the three posts of president for district CDRF and the state Government in an apparent nepotism act has issued a fresh advertisement in this regard in newspapers, Mani told NNN at the AMBA office in Cheirap Court complex here.
He said the CDRF has three different forums at district level adding the Imphal District Forum covers Imphal East, Imphal West, Ukhrul and Senapati districts and the Thoubal District Forum covers Thoubal and Chandel districts while the Bishnupur District Forum covers Bishnupur, Tamenglong and Churachandpur districts.
Due to lack of proper staff and infrastructure, these forums have remained defunct for the last two years, he said.
A lot of cases concerning with buying of goods by consumers are pending owing to the above reason, Mani said.
On January 19 this year, an order was issued for appointment of 10 different posts including three district forum presidents, six members and one member for the state Commission, Mani recounted.
The advocate also said interview for the recruitment was conducted by the selection committee on May 30, 2013 .
The selection committee was consisted of state Commission president Maibam Binoykumar, a retired Judge of Gauhati High Court, as the chairman and Commissioner (CAF & PD) and Secretary, Law as members, Khaidem Mani said.
He alleged the attempt by the Government to recruit fresh presidents of the forums is an act of moral assassination of the selection committee.
According to Section 10 (1A) of Consumer Protection Act, 1986, every appointment under Sub-Section (1) shall be made by the state Government on the recommendation of a selection committee, he said.
Khaidem Mani pledged no corruption will be allowed in any court related activity.
