Go to Village mission : Difficulties of remote villages highlighted

Imphal, May 25 2018: Apart from reviewing the progress achieved so far at the end of the fourth round, Chief Minister N Biren today sought suggestions from officials concerned so as to make the Go to Village mission a grand success.

The review meeting held at the Durbar Hall of the Chief Minister's Secretariat this morning was attended by Ministers, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, the DGP, nodal officers, Principal Secretaries, Commissioners, Secretaries and Deputy Commissioners.

Nodal officers who went to far flung hill areas informed the Chief Minister that many people did not turn up at the Go to Village mission camps due to bad road/transport infrastructure and that they received many complaints about unreliable mobile phone networks.

In some districts, SDOs go to such camps by hiring private vehicles as they do not have official vehicles.

YAS Secretary and Ukhrul district nodal officer Bobby Waikhom informed the Chief Minister that villagers did not turn up at Go to Village mission camps held at interior areas of the district due to pathetic roads.

Commissioner T Pamei who is also the nodal officer of Tamenglong district said that disabled persons could not attend the camps even as such camps are held cluster-wise.

The Pherzawl' DC said that SDOs assigned to attend Go to Village mission camps at different places of Pherzawl district hired private vehicles and boats.

The DC further informed that no mobile phone network is available even at the district headquarters.

Kangpokpi DC Rangitabali Waikhom informed the Chief Minister that the people of Bungte Chiru were found excluded from schemes taken up under TA & Hills Department.

But she did not name atay particular scheme.

Even though it was said that four water storage tanks (Sintex) were distributed at Kangpokpi, it was found that the water storage tanks were distributed only on table.

ML As as the Government does not provide any assistance to people residing in interior villages for travelling to the villages/sites where the camps are held.

Pointing out that paddy cultivation season has set in, Chief Minister N Biren asked officials to see that if farmers require fertilizers, irrigation facilities or water pump-sets.

Apart from launching an exclusive website for the Go to Village mission, the Chief Minister released a brochure published by DIPR in seven dialects namely Tangkhul, Mao, Maram, Poumai, Hmar, Paite and Thadou apart from Manipuri.
