Sick, abandoned pony finds home

An eight month old sick and abandoned male pony has finally got a home today.
The news of a sick and abandoned pony which walked the streets of the State in the wilderness reached the office of Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Chairperson PFA India who is also a Union Cabinet Minister, according to a statement issued by PFA Manipur.
She instructed PFA Manipur and State Veterinary Department to rescue the poor horse.
The horse was rescued a week before and kept at the State Vety hospital for treatment.
To find a final solution, under the advice of PFA India, PFA Manipur held a meeting at the office of Dy Director (Administration) Dr Ch Nandakishore, Vety Dept with some pony lovers of the State today.
As an outcome of the meeting, the poor pony was taken over by Eastern Students' Club of Nongmeibung, Imphal East.
The club will provide lifetime care to the horse.
Medical support will be provided from the office of Dy Director Vety, the PFA Manipur said.
The pony has been named Luwang today by ES Club and PFA Manipur after it finally got a home, it said.
PFA Manipur will urge Maneka Sanjay Gandhi to help in executing the project proposal for the welfare of pony submitted by State Vety Dept to the Dept of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture.
PFA Manipur will keep an eye on the projects and schemes of pony welfare.
Pony owners who abandon horses can be booked under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, it added.
Horse is part and parcel of the people's life in the State.
Horse has occupied a special place in the history, culture and literary works of the State.
Various machineries of the Government is talking about plans to conserve the endangered animal.
Many State level organisations were formed and a number of National and international tournaments were held towards the preservation and promotion of Manipuri pony but development in the life of the horse is yet to be seen, it added.
