Imphal, January 30 2015 :
The 4th Women Conference of Rongmei Naga Baptist Association (RNBA) held since January 28 at Longmai Common Ground (Longmai-III) concluded today.
Speaking at the closing function, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam stated that a good mother can nurture a healthy family and a prosperous society at large.
The conference organised by the Longmai-III Women Society was attended by around 15,000 women including 6064 women from outside Manipur.
The conference also featured a choir competition which was participated by 116 choir groups of 153 Churches.
The conference is held after a gap of every 10 year.
Holding the conference at a time when the State has been observing the anniversary of Rani Gaidinliu is highly significant, he said.
Women have been taking pro-active roles in nurturing a family, moulding the society and also in Nation building, Gaikhangam stated.
To make Manipur a land of unity and harmony where different communities co-exist peacefully lies in the hands of women.
He called upon each and every woman to follow the footpath of Rani Gaidinliu and groom themselves as women of high calibre and substance.
Advising the gathering to be God-fearing, the Deputy Chief Minister asserted that good and caring mothers can certainly bring about many positive changes in the society.
He appealed to all mothers to advise their sons every now and then so that they refrain from posing any impedance to development works taken up in any part of the State.
Manipur should remain a free State.
No outsiders should dare claim ownership of the State.
It was with this conviction that 13 year old Rani Gaidinliu launched a sustained struggle, Gaikhangam reminded.
Praising Rani Gaidinliu as an extraordinary woman leader of Manipur, the Deputy Chief Minister recalled that Gaidinliu was imprisoned for 14 long years for waging war against the British colonial rule.
She was given the title of Rani by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru after India achieved independence.
The Government of India has already decided to honour the freedom fighter by minting coins of Rs 5 and Rs 100 denominations in the name of Rani Gaidinliu, Gaikhangam added.
