Imphal, January 30 2015 :
As observed in other parts of the country, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was observed as Martyr Day at GM hall here today.
Offering of floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi was the main feature of the solemn function which was attended by many Ministers, MLAs and top ranking civil and police officials.
Apart from presentation of hymn in honour of the late leader, siren was also blared as a part of the death anniversary function.
Dy CM Gaikhangam led the Ministers, MLAs, top officials and others in offering floral tribute to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at GM hall.
Whereas the death anniversary function at GM was organised by the State Government, a similar function was also held at Congress Bhavan under the aegis of MPCC.
At Congress Bhavan, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Ministers and MLAs were joined by a large number of Congress workers in paying homage to the late champion of non-violence.
Responding to queries raised by media persons who went to cover the function, Gaikhangam maintained that he could not give any comment on the much anticipated Ministry reshuffle.
He categorically stated that the question of Ministry reshuffle is the prerogative of the Chief Minister.
Saying that there are no official reports about harassment of civilians by Assam Rifles and police along Imphal-Moreh highway, Gaikhangam, nonetheless, assured that the matter would be discussed in the next meeting of the unified command.
In case it turns out that police and AR personnel were harassing people travelling to Moreh, necessary action would be initiated, Gaikhangam stated.
Referring to the Kadangband incident, the Deputy Chief Minister claimed that no official report has been received whether the slain victims were UG cadres or not.
Once the facts are established, necessary action would be initiated, he added.
