ATSUM to MEELAL: Promote Mayek with positive attitude

All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has asked MEELAL to promote and develop Meitei Mayek with positive intention.
Speaking to media persons at Kangpokpi today, ATSUM president Emboi Serto said that the tribal body appreciated the efforts and struggle of MEELAL in developing Meitei Mayek.
"We want MEELAL to take laudable measures in their efforts to develop Meitei Mayek so as to ensure that it is acceptable by all and nothing communal is in the process", Emboi added.
He further opined that MEELAL should not make Meitei Mayek compulsory in hill districts and on vehicles owned by tribal.
"ATSUM is not against the efforts of MEELAL in developing the script", Emboi stated cautioning at the same time that if any vehicle from the hill districts or vehicles belonging to the tribals face problems in valley for not using Meitei Mayek in their vehicle's nameplate, ATSUM would restrict the entry of any vehicle inscribed with Meitei Mayek on the number plates in the hill districts.
The Union further demanded MEELAL to make sure that its activists or volunteers do not cause trouble to vehicles belonging to the tribals as a part of its effort to develop the script in valley so as to avoid unsolicited atmosphere.
"Let the efforts and struggles of MEELAL in developing Meitei Mayek strike a positive note, but not a negative one, " he added.
