Imphal, January 30 2015 :
Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council member Thangjamang Kipgen (40) escaped a life attempt at his Langol Games Village, Zone-III residence under Lamphel police station this morning.
According to Thangjamang, an unknown person, suspected to be a Kuki, came to his house at Quarter Number A/IV, Langol Games Village, Zone-III at around 10 am and asked the ADC Member for some money to refuel his vehicle.
Thangjamang's house is located just a few metres away from Mary Kom's boxing academy, which is currently under-construction.
As Thangjamang refused to give money, the man pulled out a small arm and fired a bullet at him, the ADC member said.
However, Thangjamang escaped with just a slight graze on his right shoulder.
After the sudden and unexpected attack, he ran inside another room and closed the doors, he added.
However, the armed person fired another round at the door as well, Thangjamang said.
After a few moment, the gunman went out of the house and fired two bullets at Thangjamang's Bolero jeep (MN-03-P-2359) parked inside his residential complex before he finally left the house, he added.
Thangjamang added that locals of the area saw the gunman moving in a hurry by foot after the attack.
He added that although he has not received any monetary demand from any underground organisation recently, he earlier had some threats from Kuki UG groups regarding the election of ADC Chairman some months back.
After the incident, Thangjamang was rushed to RIMS hospital for treatment, however, he was discharged after first aid.
Later, a large number of police personnel of Imphal West district led by SP Dr AK Jhalajit arrived at Thangjamang's house and inspected the crime scene.
Residents of Langol Games Village, Zone-III also gathered at the area and protested the attempt on Thangjamang's life.
Strongly condemning the incident, the residents requested the organisation concerned not to repeat such attacks in future which may create fear to residents.
Meanwhile, Chairman and members of ADC Sadar Hills have vehemently condemned the incident.
Chairman Haokholal Hangshing urged all concerned to shun violence and solve all misunderstandings/disagreements through peaceful means.
