Imphal, January 30 2015 :
Condemning the troops of 8 Assam Rifles for killing two persons and injuring three others in a reported encounter at Kadangband on January 28, Janata Dal (United) has demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
Addressing a press conference at their Babupara office today, Janata Dal (U) State president M Tombi questioned the troops why they fired innumerable number of bullets at the car instead of stopping the vehicle for frisking.
M Tombi said that the incident must be thoroughly probed not only by CBI but also by an independent body before the people rise.
There are numerous cases of forced disappearance and killing under the cover of AFSPA, said M Tombi and demanded the Government to completely repeal the draconian Act.
He also urged the Government to compensate the families of the persons who were killed and injured in the incident.
Taking part at the press conference, party secretary general Lien Gangte alleged that the incident, which occurred at Kadangband on January 28 night, was a fake encounter.
He also questioned why the troops opened fire on the car instead of frisking the vehicle.
On the other hand, the secretary general also accused AR troops of allegedly giving unnecessary harassments to travellers at Khudengthabi.
