Imphal, January 30 2015 :
The Thadou Students' Union Chandel has vehemently condemned the detention of Tengnoupal villagers by the 24 Assam Rifles on January 29.According to a statement issued by Thangboi Mate, information and publicity secretary, TSA Chandel, some villagers who were returning home after shopping at Pallel and Imphal were detained at an unauthorised check post at Sita junction near Tengnoupal village by 24 Assam Rifles personnel on January 29 evening.
Members of the village authority who went to the check post to request the AR personnel to allow the villagers to enter were also abused, alleged the statement.
TSA further claimed that due to several unauthorised check posts between Pallel and Moreh along NH-102, the 60 km long journey which could have been covered within an hour takes at least 5 hours.
Citing instances of atrocities of the Assam Rifles personnel posted in Chandel district, Assam Rifles personnel posted at Tengnoupal and Khudengthabi stop all the vehicles and unload them, alleged TSA.
While the passengers are made to walk across the check posts, the army personnel would capture photographs of lady passengers from a hidden place, alleged TSA.
Endorsing the indefinite bandh along National Highway 102 imposed by Tengnoupal villagers, TSA appealed the authority concerned to consider the grievances faced by the people and scrutinise the activities carried out by the Assam Rifles posted in the district.
