Shillong, October 04 2012:
Withdrawing its road blockade in Garo Hills, the militant outfit Achik National Volunteers Council (ANVC-B) Thursday announced that it will no more be calling for any road blockade nor bandh.
"There will be no road blockade nor bandh against the corrupt leaders of Garo Hills" ANVC(B) Thursday said in a statement adding "instead there will be non cooperation movement for the 2013 Meghalaya assembly election" .
The outfit claimed that it has been getting the cooperation of people in the agitations called in last few months which, however, were totally ignored by State Government.
Reiterating that the ANVC(B)'s fight against corruption will be on the democratic front, the outfit said "2013 election will be the answer to the fight against corruption" .
"All irresponsible leaders will be voted against, and we are out to make a strong stand against the corrupt leaders by bringing in mass awareness of constitutional rights and adult franchise," ANVC(B) asserted.
It can be mentioned here that on September 8, the Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC-B) had affirmed its stand to continue fighting for 'Garoland' in Meghalaya.
"Politicians who fail to raise 'Garoland' issue will be dealt according to their agreement and commitment," the Garo militant outfit had said.
ANVC(B) had also stated its fight was against the corrupted governance and total negligence of the Garo politicians who have infected the entire system of the society.
"We are not giving up our fight for GHADC, but enhancing our stand for the Council in a different way," the outfit had said last month.
ANVC(B) had then sponsored road blockade which ended on September 9.The road blockade was effective from 6 pm to 6 am.
The outfit had called the road blockade to see how government reacts to its stand whilst it is also to give a glimpse of the seriousness of the outfit on its demand.
Furthermore, justifying its stand, the outfit said, "Times have changed, thus strategies are reviewed every fortnight.
It will take years to find remedy to the damage done to the council, therefore reconstitution of more powerful setup at the earliest is what we are demanding.
State Government knows what we mean" .
ANVC(B) had earlier demanded the resignation of the chief executive member (CEM) of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council and his deputy.
But now it has demanded the dissolution of GHADC itself due to the corruption inside and claimed that the Council is not 'Autonomous' in its nature anymore.
