Imphal, June 16 2026:
The Native People Committee Manipur (NPCM) and the Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) have collectively urged the Government of India and the State Government to abrogate Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with Kuki militants.
The NPCM and the CNPO held a joint meeting today at Chandel district headquarters on the challenges faced by indigenous people in Manipur at present.
NPCM convenor Ashang Kasar, NPCM co-convenor Ph Deban and CNPO president Dilbung Thamdok spoke at the meeting and they vehemently condemned the brutal murder of six Naga hostages and mutilation of their bodies by Kuki militants.
They urged the Government to deliver justice to the victims without any bias or delay.
Noting that mutual understanding among the communities is crucial on the issue of census, they appealed to all communities to cooperate for accurate documentation and timely update of population data.
The meeting unanimously resolved that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) should be updated at the earliest with 1951 as the base year.
It also resolved that the Meitei and Naga people would collectively exert pressure on the Government of India and the State Government to see that the NRC is updated at the earliest.
The meeting hosted by CNPO resolved that the native people should collectively defend their rights and protect the spirit of unity among the indigenous people.
