Imphal, October 04 2012:
To save the indigenous people of the state from extinction, Manipur People's Party (MPP) has launched a campaign for re-implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) along with organizing a sit-in protest demonstration in front of the party office here today.
Speaking on the sideline of the protest demonstration, Sanasam Umananda, President of MPP, pointed out that the Manipur State Assembly had passed a private member resolution for re-implementation of ILP in the state.
However, when the Assembly resolution was forwarded to the centre, the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has termed it as unconstutional apart from attacking the authority and dignity of the House and the Parliamentary practice and procedures being followed by all the Legislative Bodies of India.
This is strongly condemned by MPP.
Umananda observed that the resolution adopted by the State Assembly is the decision of the people of the state.
If huge number of people from different parts of the country rush in to a tiny state like Manipur and start settling, there will be surely demographic imbalance in the state.
This would lead to instability in the economic and social spheres and it would ultimately lead to extinction of the indigenous people.
He asserted that Manipur was not merged to India Union to make its people extinct but to protect and preserve them.
If the situation demands, the Constitution can be amended to save the indigenous people of the state.
The MPP President went on to point out that entry of foreigners in Manipur is prohibited without valid passes, no doubt; however, what is more important is to put a break on the ever increasing number of illegal migrants coming to the state, and for this, re-implementation of ILP in Manipur is very necessary.
MPP has also been trying to bring together all the people of North East for launching various intense agitations to press the demand.
Senior leader of the party, L Chandramani also condemned the statement of the Union Home Minister and it was supported by Sapamcha Jadumani, President of FRIENDS, who was also participated in the protest demonstration.
