Many decry rape and murder of school girl

Center for Social Development (CSD) has condemned the suspected rape and murder of Kh Catherine alias Sangthoi Lamkang (15), d/o Kh Simon Lamkang of New Lamkang Khunthak, Chandel District.
Catherine, a class X student at St Paul High School in Chandel district, was found dead with her throat slit at a hillock called Lai Lam Thokpam Ching of Sekmai Ningthou and Nongpok Ningthou under Tengnoupal Police Station on Wednesday.
Expressing serious concern over women and girls of the state being subjected to rape, murder and torture, Co-Convenor of CSD Babina Salam pointed out that as per media reports from 1st January to 31st August 2012 there is a total number of 146 cases of crimes against women (rape, murder, suicide, rape attempt, molestation, etc.) in Manipur.
CSD demanded the authorities concerned to investigation into the Catherine case and punish the culprits in accordance to the law of the land.
It also appealed to the public to collectively fight against such crimes and made Manipuri society as a violent free society.
All Manipur Women Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) has also condemned the "merciless killing" of Catherine.
In a statement, AMAWOVA also urged the public to join hands and fight against such crimes and demanded the state government for a probe into the incident.
