Imphal, June 16 2026:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asserted that bringing three Kuki men who were wounded in a violent clash at a village in Kangpokpi district on June 15 to Imphal is nothing but provocation.
A large number of innocent people from both Meitei and Kuki communities have been killed and many others maimed in the course of the violent conflict which erupted on May 3, 2023, the COCOMI pointed out in a statement.
As announced earlier, COCOMI will not give any obstruction to innocent Kuki people coming to Imphal including for medical treatment.
"Our enemies are not innocent people but armed drug dealers and Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists from Myanmar', it said.
The COCOMI asserted that the Government must clarify who the three wounded men brought to Imphal yesterday are.
If it turns out that the three wounded men are members of a terrorist group, the Government must take up appropriate and necessary actions against them, it said.
Pointing out that the people's sentiment has been deeply hurt, the COCOMI questioned the Government's failure to give a clarification on who the three men are and how they got wounded.
It went on to ask why the Government and the army have been supporting suspected terrorists by taking undue advantage of the decision not to harm Kukis coming to Imphal for medical treatment.
Instead of working to bring peace in the State, the Government has been adding salt to the hurt sentiment of the people, it said.
The COCOMI said that it will not remain silent if the three wounded men turn out to be militants who committed acts of terrorism.
During the past three years of violent conflict, neither Central forces nor State forces brought any wounded Kuki men to Imphal for treatment.
But three wounded Kuki men were brought to Imphal yesterday.
It looked like it was a deliberate act aimed at igniting renewed tension and keeping Manipur on boil, it said.
Categorically saying that the Government of India and the State Government are accountable for the violence and the deaths, the COCOMI warned that the State may see an unprecedented mass uprising if the Centre and the State Government are plotting to sustain the unrest.
