Imphal, June 16 2026:
The Manipur Meitei Pangal Welfare Organisation (MMWO) today reiterated its demand for immediate implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to identify illegal immigrants in the State.
Speaking to reporters at the MMWO office in Hatta, working president Amin Moijingmayum said the issue of NRC has been raised repeatedly but the Government has shown no clarity till date.
"Implement NRC at the earliest to make Manipur a peaceful State without outsiders", he urged.
Amin warned that if NRC is not executed, MMWO, along with CSOs and the public, will launch a strong agitation.
He noted that killings have continued unabated since May 3, 2023, with many mothers losing their children.
Despite efforts by security forces, the Government appears indifferent to agitations by CSOs and the public, he alleged.
Condemning recent brutal killings where bodies were mutilated and not returned to families, he questioned whether a crime-loving group has emerged in the State.
He demanded that the Government conduct a thorough probe into such elements and take stringent action to restore peace and public confidence.
