Minister visits flood affected areas

Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar today inspected the flood affected areas of Mayang Imphal today.
The Minister, who is an MLA of the Constituency, was accompanied by the officials of IFCD and Wangoi SDO.
Ratankumar first visited Chabung Company Mayai Leikai, where a portion of Imphal river embankment breached yesterday.
A local resident said that villagers have reconstructed the embankment using bamboos and sand bags before the situation got aggravated.
At Chirai Mayai Leikai and Phoubakchao Mayai Leikai, villagers have fled their homes due to complete inundation of these areas by flood water overflowing from Imphal river.
After handing over relief materials to the affected people, the Minister assured them to provide all necessary assistance.
A resident of Phoubakchao Mayai Leikai told reporters that Phoubakchao suspension bridge is outdated and old as it was constructed in 1973 .
Drawing the attention of the Government, he said that the 40-year-old bridge must be changed into a bailey bridge.
Later, Ratankumar also visited Upokpi Khunou Canal and Mayang Imphal Konchak Mamang Leikai, where villagers were trying to block seepage of water.
On the other hand, BJP Manipur Pradesh Information Technology Cell convenor Kongkham Robindro also inspected the flood affected areas of Mayang Imphal located between Imphal river and Manipur river.
Robindro not only provided required machinery but also personally supervised relief works and reconstruction of breached embankments.
It may be mentioned that breaching of embankments and seepage of water occurred at Laphupat Tera, Komlakhong, Phoubakchao, Hiyangkhong, Chirai and Chabung Company of the Constituency.
