Many buildings of 82 RCC headquarters were damaged due to massive ground sinking.
Taking stock of the situation of the highway, Works and Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip along with Tengnoupal A/C MLA DK Korungthang visited 82 RCC headquarters today.
The visiting team met the Commanding Officer of 25 BRTF, RK Saha, CO of 82 RCC, Major S Majumdar and AEE 2-IC AK Sinha there.
Dr Kh Ratankumar said that the torrential rain had wreaked havoc in the State.
Apart from landslides in hill districts, several areas of Manipur valley mostly in Thoubal district are flooded now, he said.
Quoting the engineers of BRTF, Ratankumar said that such massive landslides and huge cracks are usually seen only after experiencing massive earthquakes.
In order to restore traffic movement, clearance of debris has started both from Tengnoupal and Moreh sides using earth excavators, the Minister added.
At some areas, Kh Ratankumar said, restoration of traffic movement would require cutting of hill using heavy machinery.
He said that plying of heavy vehicles must be suspended for some time as the highway is now in a feeble state.
DK Korungthang urged the Works Minister to speed up restoration works as the highway is the lifeline of the whole State.
PWD Additional Chief Engineer N Noren, Executive Engineer N Deben and other subordinate staff accompanied the team.
Heavy rainfall has triggered a massive mudslide at a place between Phalbung and Chelep villages along Tengnoupal-Shangsak road causing panic to the villagers.
On the other hand, a two-feet wide massive crack has developed near Lokchao bridge while the road leading to Mahadev area has also been severely affected.
