Relief work in full swing in flood affected areas, Chandel District

Chandel, August 02 2015: Relief works for flood affected people and areas in Chandel District are going on in full swing.

According to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chandel Robert Kshetrimayum, the Rapid Response team has been able to deliver relief materials including medicines to flood affected victims of Chakpikarong that remain cut off when the only RCC bridge located in the heart of Chakpikarong collapsed and washed away on July 31 .

He said that the team took Serou Lamkhai via Thingkhangphai, Teijang and Salluk diversion to reach the other side of the town where the CHC Chakpikarong is located.

Similarly, relief work in Tengnoupal, Khengjoy and Machi is being taken up by a team Rapid Response Team.

The DC informed that district police officials, executive magistrate and others have gone to Joumoul, the site of landslide along with NDRF for relief and rescue operations.

However, details of the rescue operation could not be obtained due to problem of telecommunication connectivity.

Meanwhile, Chakpi River Flood Affected Relief Committee (CRFARC) said that it is putting the service of 4 JCBs to cut new diversion road at Teijang village which is between Serou and Salluk village now flooded due to heavy rains.

Informing the possibility of connectivity through the new road, the committee further acknowledged and thanked the owners of machines - Hl Lovingson, Nl Ngamshel, St Rocko and Khupmang for the free contribution and the noble service these contractors and social workers rendered.

Chandel District Administration led by Kshetrimayum in collaboration with the Chakpi River Flood Affected Relief Committee (CRFARC) also conducted a spot enquiry of the flood affected areas.

The team which comprises District Govt officials from PWD and agriculture department, representatives of various CSOs including CNPO, NWUC, ANTA, ALT and representatives of 41-Chandel MLA reached out to Chakpikarong and interacted with the affected people.

However, the DC and the entire team could not meet and interact with the affected people of the other side of the chakpikarong as it remained cut off due to the collapsed Chakpikarong Bridge.

Relief materials consisting of 30 bags of rice, 2 bags of Dal and 3 bags of salt from MLA of 41-Chandel St.

Nunghlung Victor were distributed to the flood affected people.

Disclosing the extent of damages caused by the flood, Media Convener of CRFAC Wng Victor Kohring said RCC bridge over Chakpi River at Chakpikarong had collapsed; RCC bridge over Duhan river on Chakpikarong Sajik Tampak road got partially damaged; RCC bridge over Kana river at Paldai and Gelngai is also partially damaged; Bailey Bridge over Chakpi river on Nungpan-Anal Khullen road had been washed away while Bailey Bridge over Chakpi river on United College Lambung road has also been partially damaged.

The Convener had also confirmed the washing away of the seven suspension bridges by the flood.

They are Chakham Anal Khullen, Lamphou Pasna, United college Lambung, Thangkin, Duthang, Libung, and Dutha.

He also informed of landslide that rendered the villages cut off from the rest of the district.

They are Chandel-Vomku road, Chandel Phiran Khullen road and Chandel- Phunchung Road.

The Convener appealed for a bridge at Chakpikarong market and appealed the Government to provide immediate relief materials to the affected villagers.
