Ukhrul, August 02 2015:
In the aftermath of the numerous landslides blocking the Imphal-Kasom Khullen route and sinking of lands due to heavy downpour, hapless residents of the subdivision are reeling under severe hardships.
A villager of Kasom Khullen K Jajo said that their village has remained cut off since about a week back as the heavy landslides have totally blocked the road leading to the subdivision.
He said that those who had been to Imphal and other places cannot return home now; adding that all passenger services have been suspended and many villagers are left stranded elsewhere without an option.
"Even our daily requirements of essential commodities are running out, but so far there has been no response whatsoever from the government side," he added.
It may be noted that the current heavy downpour had triggered deep craters within the Kasom Khullen locality causing cracks on several houses.
Meanwhile, talking to Hueiyen Lanpao Kasom Khullen Police OC Chaoba said that since Saturday a police team from Imphal has been trying to reach Kasom Khullen to take stock of the situation there but could not proceed beyond Yeasom village which is about some 25 kms away from Kasom Khullen.
"Probably by Monday police team would be reaching the subdivision by taking the footpath from Yeasom village," he informed.
He further informed that there have been around 7/8 landslides at various points along the Kasom Khullen route in between Yeasom and Nungsithaibi, adding that at some points mud slides are wreaking havoc on the same route.
Though the situation may not quite alarming, the residents are reeling under severe hardships for quite some time now, Chaoba added.
