Imphal, January 04 2022:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged underground outfits and other organisations to refrain from making threats or demanding ransom from the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) .
Further the student body also appealed for political agents to refrain from intervening in the inner workings of COHSEM and make all educational institutions a 'free zone' .
In a statement released today, DESAM asserted that laying threats on employees of COHSEM who are currently in the midst of preparing for the upcoming physical exams slated for April 1 and causing disruptions in their work is not a logical step.
The statement expressed the need to ensure that COHSEM remains free from the influences of politics, nepotism, favoritism and corruption.
DESAM also informed that with the combined efforts of DESAM, other student bodies and several educationists, many positive changes have been affected in COHSEM.
Asserting that the total number of students appearing for Class XI and Class XII examination this year is roughly 71,000, DESAM attributed this increase in number to CBSE students transferring over to schools affiliated to COHSEM in large numbers.
Further, DESAM added that many schools who were previously affiliated with CBSE have made the change to affiliate with COHSEM and as such, there are currently around 200 schools under COHSEM.
All this has been made possible due to COHSEM's exemplary performance in conducting exams, announcing results on time and overall progress in matters concerning students and academics, the statement added.
COHSEM's syllabus has also been upgraded to be on the national level and NCERT books have been made available at cheap prices which has made it easier for students to delve into competitive exams.
Further, the sum charged by COHSEM for registration of students is lower in comparison with CBSE, the statement informed.
