Don't intimidate or demand money from COHSEM: DESAM

Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has appealed to organisations concerned including armed groups not to intimidate or demand 'unfeasible' amount of money from the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (CoHSEM) .
In a release, DESAM publicity secretary Sh Rishikumar appealed to make CoHSEM, which is an important department for students, free from any political influence and also make education institutions a free zone at all times.
While pointing out that CoHSEM has been conducting two crucial examinations for Class XI and XII every year, he said that the Council is presently working to hold physical examination in the first week of April.
Hindering the works of the Council and intimidating its employees is not a right step, the secretary maintained, while observing that there are positive changes in CoHSEM because of the joint efforts of student bodies and educationists.
Sh Rishikumar revealed that around 71,000 students of Class XI and XII will appear in examinations conducted by CoHSEM and there are around220 schools affiliated to it.
Many schools affiliated to other boards like CBSE have now shifted to CoHSEM, he continued, while explaining that the reason is because of timely conduct and declaration of examinations.
The syllabus of CoHSEM has now been brought up to national level and ensuring availability of NCERT text books at low price.
The registration and examination fee of the students under CoHSEM is also low when compared with other boards like CBSE, he pointed out.
Stating that CoHSEM and other educational institutions should be kept free from corruption, favoritism, nepotism and political influence, Sh Rishikumar reiterated not to demand huge amount of money from the council.
