Shutdown against PM's visit affects normal life

Imphal, January 04 2022:
The total shutdown imposed by the proscribed Coordination Committee (CorCom) and National Revolutionary Front, Manipur (NRFM) as part of the boycott of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit severely affected normal life in the state on Tuesday.
Important markets in the state including Khwairam-band Keithel, Paona bazar and Thangal bazar in Imphal as well as markets in district headquarters and towns of the state remained closed for the day.
There was no passenger service including inter-district passenger service but some vehicular movement relating to visit of the Prime Minister could be seen on the roads.
Though large number of people lined up on both sides of the road from Imphal airport to Palace gate to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi with BJP flags and banners, most of other roads in the state wore a deserted look.
However, many private vehicles moved towards Palace gate to attend the PM's function.
There was no report of any untoward incident during the shutdown while security personnel of both state force and Central paramilitary forces maintained strict vigil at important junctions of Imphal area.
CorCom, a conglomerate of seven Mani pur-based armed outfits, boycotted the PM's visit and imposed a total shutdown from 1 am of Monday till the departure of the PM alleging attempts were being made to expand colonial administration in Manipur" .
The NRFM also called a 12-hour bandh in Manipur on Tuesday.
