Sit-in demands justice for Rohit, accused remanded to judicial custody

A large number of women staged a sit in protest at the ground of Heirok Part 2 Mayai Leikai Upper Primary School demanding justice for Ningthoujam Rohit Singh who was killed in a pre -poll violence in Heirok on December 21 last.
Reportedly, hundreds of enraged women from different localities in Heirok came out on hearing that the accused of the case are likely to be produced before a Court and staged the protest.
Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thoubal has remanded the six accused persons in connection with the Heirok incident wherein 21 year old Ningthoujam Rohit Singh was killed and his father Ningthoujam Premchandra Singh was grievously injured, to judicial custody for a period of 15 days till January 18 .

The six accused persons involved in this case are Thokchom Bishworjit @ Putro Singh (40), Khundongbam Nicky @ Anju Singh (33), Thokchom Henrik @ Naobi Singh (29), Laishram Biken Singh (23), Ningthoujam Panan Singh (33) and Thokchom Sanathoi @ Lai (33).At the protest site, the protesters raised slogans such as "Seize the weapons used in kiling N Rohit", "Capital punishment for killer" and "We want peace" among others.
Speaking to media persons, mother of Rohit, Ningthoujam (o) Esabi Devi urged the State Government to kill her too if they could not reward befitting punishment to those whoever found guilty in the case.
Convenor of JAC Against the Killing of N Rohit Moirangthem Sambhi asked why the authorities concerned are not taking any legal action against the killers whose identities have already been made public.
Asking if the Government is not taking the issue in Heirok seriously and if the Police Department is defunct, the convenor condemned the Government for not arresting people who instigated violence in the Assembly segment since the past few months.
Sambhi warned that a civil war might one day erupt in Manipur if the citizens lose faith in the State.
CrPc 144 has been clamped in Heirok following the incident of December 21 .
