PM urged to repeal AFSPA

The Rongmei Naga Youth Organization (RNYO), Assam, Manipur & Nagaland, Rongmei Lu Phuam (RLP), Assam, Manipur & Nagaland and the Rongmei Naga Youth Organization, Manipur (RNYOM) jointly submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi today demanding the repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 (AFSPA) from the entire region of North East India.
In a statement, Rongmei Naga Youth Organization, Manipur (RNYOM) informed that in the memorandum the aforementioned three CSOs reminded the PM of the severity of the draconian law citing the recent Oting massacre where 13 lives were lost in indiscriminate firing; the Oinam incident of 1987, code named 'Operation Blue Bird' where Indian Army committed unfathomable atrocities; the Malom massacre where 10 civilians were shot dead by CRPF at RIMS Gate, Imphal and the killing of 14 people due to random firing by CRPF at Heirangoithong, Imphal.
The memorandum further apprised the PM of the fact that over one and a half lakh people were killed during the past several decades in the North East under the spell of AFSPA, 1958 .
