Imphal, June 11 2014:
BJP State Unit has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Rural Development Minister Nitin Gadkari to look into implementation of MGNREGA in the State.
Speaking to reporters, BJP State Unit President Th Chaoba said that he has submitted separate memoranda to the two Central leaders urging them to probe alleged violation of the Act in the State.
Although job card holders under MGNREGA are entitled to get 100 days' work in a year, Chaoba said, they have not been getting this guaranteed number of mandays since year 2007 .
Chaoba further said that job card holders got only 12 mandays in the fiscal year 2013-14 .
He said that the State Unit has urged the Centre to conduct an inquiry into this irregularity so that job card holders get their due guaranteed right.
Regarding distribution of mandays, Chaoba said that instead of giving the responsibility of 70 per cent of the work to Panchayat and 30 per cent to Zilla Parishad Members, the State Government gave 25 per cent of the work to MLAs in the name of Line Department, 25 per cent to Zilla Parishad and 50 per cent to Panchayat.
He also urged the Centre to query why the State Government has not been able to contribute its mandatory 10 per cent share which is needed for the smooth implementation of the Act.
The State President also urged the Central leaders to stop the practice of earmarking 25 per cent work for Line Departments.
He also requested the Centre to direct the State Government not to intervene into distribution of old-aged pension, IAY scheme, Family Benefit Scheme, PDS items and selection of beneficiaries for the Food Security Act.
Chaoba further said that he is leaving Imphal for Delhi soon to put forward several issues of the State before Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
