Lamka, June 11 2014:
The Chura-Behiang Tedim Road, a state highway which connects with the district headquarters of Churachandpur district, has become a curse for the people living in Singhat Sub-division of Churachandpur district headquarters.
The residents in the adjacent villages have also been enduring severe hardships due to poor connectivity with the district headquarters of Churachandpur on account of the deplorable condition of this State highway.
When a media team went for an inspection tour to take stock of living condition of the people living in remote areas of Churachandpur district, it came to light the state highway, Tedim Road, that connects the Indo-Myanmar village of Behiang and its nearby villages with the outside world has been lying in a dilapidated condition for the last many years with no one to care about.
Behiang village is located about 60 kilometres from Lamka (Churachandpur) town and the ride along the Tidim road upto Behiang is bumpy all the way.
On the other hand, people in Sangaikot TD Block under 60-Singhat Assembly Constituency, which is located about 22 Kilometres from Churachandpur district headquarter, have also been facing a lot hardships because of poor road connectivity with Lamka town.
Government institutions in Singhat Sub-division, like schools, health care centres and SDO office also exist only in namesake.
Many employees and teachers seldom report for duty on the pretext of bad road communication along Chura-Behiang state highway.
In Lungthul Government High School and Singngat Government High School, there is no teacher to teach Science, Hindi and Mathematics subjects and computer class remains a distant dream for the students.
Talking to the media team, villagers also expressed strong resentment over the fact that SDO office in the Sub-divisional headquarters has not been functioning, thereby hampering development in the areas for the last many years.
