Naga Women's Union (NWU) has strongly condemned the incident of gunfire attack the neighbourhood of Human Rights Defender, Panti Gonmei at Tarung on 6 June at around 3.00 am as an apparent threat to stop the defence of the Human Rights and the struggle for justice for helpless victims of rapes, tortures, human trafficking, extra judicial killings and racial discrimination.
A statement issued by Publicity Wing, NWU & IWFNEI, said that this was not the first time threatening the Human Rights Defender, as a threat through mobile phone had also occurred on 11 December last year, and appealed to the attackers to come to senses and not to repeat such action in the future.
NWU also appealed to the Manipur government (authorities concerned) to curb occurrence of such crimes in the future by identifying the accused and awarding befitting punishment.
