Imphal, June 11 2014:
United Hatta Golapati Development Council (HGDC) today said its earlier stand has changed and decided to take part in the upcoming June 18 Uprising observance.
The organization had earlier decided not to participate in the June 18 event this year after the Federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FREINDS) recently tagged Hatta Golapati area in Imphal East district as a 'haven for looters and gangsters' .
Taking strong exception to this remark, HGDC and local residents of Hatta Golapati made the stand to stage a non-cooperation stir and stay away from participation in the June 18 observance.
But the stand has been changed in the greater interest of the State and its people, Md Hazi Arafat, president of HGDC told a press meet at AMUCO office here today.
AMUCO president Dr Y Mani Khuman and UCM president Y Nabachandra were also present during the press meet.
Arafat called on FREINDS to avoid using such derogatory words against any community in future and urged the Pangal community in the State not to take the remark of FREINDS in otherwise sense.
He said now Hatta Golapati will also mark the June 18 event and sought help and support from FREINDS and other social organizations for working together for the betterment of the society.
