Imphal, June 11 2014:
Irked by alleged indifferent attitude shown by the State Government over the rape case of a 13-year-old girl student of Government Ideal Blind School, Takyel here, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) on Wednesday called for resignation of Social Welfare minister AK Mirabai and Director L Ibobi on moral grounds.
The Government is reluctant to take action against the accused Him Bahadur alias Khansa (50), the chowkidar of the poorly managed Government Ideal Blind School, Pukhrambam Premchand, secretary general, DESAM told reporters at the student body' head office here.
Over the rape incident, DESAM had on April 14 lodged a complaint with the school's hostel superintendant H Lolita Devi, who forwarded the complaint report to the Social Welfare minister seeking action against accused Bahadur, he said.
The alleged rapist was later suspended from the post by Director of Social Welfare Department L Ibobi and ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident.
However, no departmental inquiry has been initiated against the accused till date.
It is really unfortunate on the part of the Social Welfare Minister to remain silent on the issue by showing utter negligence over the trauma caused to the victim girl, Premchand said.
Minister Mirabai and Director Ibohal should resign from their respective posts on moral grounds, he demanded.
He also demanded that rapist Thapa be arrested without any delay by the Home Department so as to award him strict punishment as per law.
