Imphal, July 06 2026:
Social activist Malem Thongam has condemned ChiefMinister Y Khemchand's act of laying a wreath on a flag that is allegedly associated with the demand for a Separate Administration by Kuki groups.
In a statement, Malem said the incident took place during the funeral of former Thanlon Assembly Constituency MLA Vungzagin Valte.
According to him, the Chief Minister laid a wreath on a flag that has been used by certain Kuki militant groups and civil society organisations advocating the division of Manipur.
He alleged that the gesture created the impression that the BJP-led Government supports the demand for a Separate Administration.
Malem further claimed that the Chief Minister's action has hurt the sentiments of those who have been working to uphold Manipur's territorial integrity.
He also said that the Chief Minister's decision to travel to Churachandpur by helicopter instead of by road reflects the State Government's inability to ensure free movement across Manipur.
Further, Malem urged the Government to refrain from making unfounded allegations against members of Arambai Tenggol and village volunteers and called for the unconditional release of the youths who had been arrested.
