Governor Dr Syed Ahmed passes away

Governor Dr Syed Ahmed passed away today at 12.45 pm after a brief illness at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai.
Meanwhile, the State Government has declared three days' mourning with effect from today apart from declaring State holiday tomorrow.
All Government offices and educational institutions would remain closed on September 28 and during the three days of mourning, the National flag would be flown at half mast.
It is reported that the State Government would held a condolence meet at the conference hall of Old Secretariat at 10.30 am tomorrow.
The last rites of Dr Syed Ahmed would be performed at 11 am tomorrow at Mumbai and PHE Minister I Hemochandra would attend the funeral service on behalf of the State Government.

Dr Syed Ahmed was born on March 6, 1945 .
He joined the Indian National Congress in 1977.He was AICC member from 2005, member Central Wakf Council, member Central Haj Committee, Chairman Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (I) Minority Cell from 1989-1993 and vice-president of All India Muslim Youth Conference, AICC from 1978 to 1990 . He was elected to the Vidhan Sabha of Maharashtra five times as a representative of Nagpada Constituency, Mumbai.
He also served as Minister of State in Maharashtra in 1986 and 1991 .
He held two Masters Degree in both Hindi and English and Doctorate in Urdu.
He has written an autobiography Pagdani Se Shahar Tak.
Other literary works authored by him include Maktal Se Manzil, Kafas Se Chaman, Jange-Azaadi Me Urdu Shayari, The Revolutionary Character of Urdu Poetry (1857 AD to 1947 AD), Collection of Essays on the role of Muslims in struggle for freedom and Collections of Essays on the role of Urdu in Struggle for Freedom.
His social activities included president, Maharashtra Welfare Center, Mumbai; president, Savira Naki Education Society, UP; president, Tameeri Idaara, UP; president, Awadh Cultural Society, Mumbai; President Sayed & Sayed Educational Trust, Mumbai and Patron, Green Mumbai Movement, Mumbai.
Dr Syed Ahmed was sworn in as the Governor of Jharkhand on September 4, 2011 followed by his appointment as Governor of Manipur.
He was sworn in as the 16th Governor of Manipur on May 16, 2015.Though his association with the State of Manipur was very brief, his charm and affable nature touched all those who came close to him.
On more than one occasion, he expressed his love for the State of Manipur and its people.
He was an experienced person with full of wisdom in the field of governance.
He was soft spoken but firm in his decisions.
He believed strongly in doing things as per rules.
