Dr Syed Breathed His Last At Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai; 3-day State Mourning Declared

Manipur Governor Syed Ahmed passed away at Lilavati Hospital, Bandra, Mumbai on Sunday after a brief illness.
He was hospitalized there some days back.
Dr Ahmed is survived by wife, one son and two daughters.
According to a condolence note from the Governor's Secretariat Raj Bhavan, Imphal, Dr Ahmed was born on March 6, 1945.He was an Indian Politician, author and a member of the Congress Party.
He joined the Indian National Congress in 1977.He was AICC member from 2005, member Central Wakf Council, member Central Haj Committee, Chairman Maharastra Pradesh Congress Committee (I) Minority Cell from 1989 - 1993, Vice-President All India Muslim Youth Conference (AICC) (1978-1990) .
Dr Syed Ahmed was elected the Member of Vidhan Sabha of Maharastra five times as a representative of the Nagpada Constituency in Mumbai.
He also served as Minister of State in Maharastra in 1986 and 1991 .

He held two Master's Degrees in both Hindi and English and a Doctorate in Urdu.
He has written an autobiography Pagdandi se Shahar Tak.
Other literary works authored by him include Maktal se Manzil, Kafas se Chaman, Jange-Azaadi me Urdu Shayari, The Revolutionary Character of Urdu Poetry (1857 A.D.to 1947 A.D.), Collections of Essays on the role of Muslims in Struggle for freedom and Collections of Essays on the role of Urdu in Struggle for freedom.
As a social activist, Dr Syed Ahmed also held several key posts of prominent organisations like Maharastra Welfare Center, Mumbai; Savira Naki Education Society, UP; Tameeri Idaara, UP; Awadh Cultural Society, Mumbai; Sayed & Sayed Educational Trust, Mumbai and Green Mumbai Movement, Mumbai.
Dr Syed Ahmed was sworn in as the Governor of Jharkhand on September 4, 2011 followed by his appointment as Governor of Manipur.
He was sworn in as the 16th Governor of Manipur on May 16, 2015.Though his association with Manipur State has been very brief, his charm and affable nature touched all those who came close to him.
On more than one occasion, he expressed his love for the State of Manipur and its people.
He was an experienced person with full of wisdom in the field of Governance.
He was soft spoken but firm in his decisions.
He believed strongly in doing things as per rules.
State Govt declares 3-day mourning; Govt offices to close on Monday .
The Government of Manipur on Sunday declared a three-day State mourning as a mark of respect to Late Dr Syed Ahmed.
The Government has also declared that Government offices and educational institutions under the Manipur Government will remain closed on Monday as part of the mourning.
Ibobi condoles .
Manipur Chief Minister, O Ibobi on Sunday expressed shock on hearing the sudden demise of Dr Syed Ahmed.
In a condolence message forwarded to the late Governor's wife Saed Hasan Tara, Ibobi said on Dr Syed Ahmed's demise, the country has lost a great leader, an eminent social activist and his absence will be felt dearly by all.
Ibobi said he on behalf of the people of Manipur conveyed heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed that his soul may rest in peace.
NPF mourns Governor's demise .
Naga People's Front (NPF) Manipur unit has also offered condolence to the bereaved family of the Governor.
A statement issued by NPF President Awangbou Newmai said that party members prayed his soul may rest in peace.
Regretting the loss of such a learned scholar, senior politician and Head of State, the NPF President said "we extend our humble solidarity to the family in this hour of sorrow and grief" .
