Imphal, September 27 2015:
A one day literary forum on 'K Padmakumar and his literary works' was held today at the Shrine Play House of Chorus Repertory Theater, Uripok Samushang Uku.
The event was held under the aegis of Sahitya Akademi and Epathoukok.
Convener of Manipur Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, Professor H Behari, Officer in-charge Sahitya Akademi, Kolkata Goutam Paul and president of Epathoukok N Jilangamba graced the functioned as dignitaries.
Secretary of Arts and Culture, Government of Manipur K Radhakumar in the introductory speech highlighted the literary contributions made by late Padmakumar adding that his writings are one of the most valued literary works of the State.
Prof Behari, during his speech, said literary discussions should not be centred on works by Akademi Award winners only, it should rather engulf wider and varied approaches to literature including those by modern writers.
Instead of criticizing and bringing out the faults and defects in the works by late writers, emphasis must be laid on encouraging poets and other writers to produce more quality based literary works.
Various literary works by past writers, the Professor said, have been wrongly interpreted.
These misunderstanding, he added, must be corrected.
While admiring the works of late K Padmakumar, Prof Behari said the writer was a trend setter who transformed Manipuri literature.
Four unpublished books by the late writer were also released during the event.
