Eat Right Mela & walkathon held in Thoubal

Thoubal, June 27 2022: As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Thoubal district administration organised an 'Eat Right Mela' and walkathon at Thoubal Mela Ground on Monday.

The event was held under the theme "Eat Right, Eat Safe and Eat Sustainable".

Thoubal district deputy commissioner A Subhash Singh, SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam and CMO Dr Y Nokul Singh were chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.

In his speech, the deputy commissioner urged people to select right food products which will make body fit and healthy.

He said that there are people who are still unaware about food safety and organising such an event would be beneficial for them, adding that people are now focussing towards using organic food items because of the various health hazards caused by fertilizer and pesticides used in cultivation and preservation of food products.

The Thoubal DC then appealed to parents/guardians of students to provide them with the right kinds of foods which are nutritious and to avoid junk foods which are unhealthy and harmful to the human body.

SP Jogeshchandra also stressed the need for eating healthy foods and exhorted the gathering to inculcate the habit of regular exercise.

He further said that most of the people take care of their health only after suffering from serious illness and urged all to take care of their health from the early stage of life.

In his address, CMO Dr Nokul Singh deliberated on the importance of consuming right foods and going for regular medical check-up to prevent various diseases and to detect them during early stage.

As part of the Eat Right Mela, a walkathon was flagged off by the deputy commissioner from CMO office which culminated at the Mela Ground.

Hundreds of participants including staff of CMO, volunteers of NYK and various organisations took part in the walkathon.

As a part of the event, various cultural programmes and spot painting competition were held and about 30 food stalls opened by Self Help Groups, private establishments and government departments showcased various food items.
