Congress sit-ins denounce Agnipath scheme

Demanding rollback of the Agnipath recruitment scheme introduced by union defence minister Rajnath Singh on June 14, Congress party staged sit-in-protest demonstrations in different parts of the state on Monday.
Former MLA of Patsoi AC Ak Mirabai, who took part in a sit-in-protest organised by Patsoi Block Congress Committee at Taobungkhok Awang Leikai, said that Agnipath scheme is a policy to push the youth to joblessness after four years of service in armed forces and hence this type of scheme must be revoked immediately.
Under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, Congress party is trying to save the country but the NDA government led by BJP is bringing out many anti people policies to make the citizens of the country suffer more, she said, adding that the BJP's government's Agnipath scheme is a policy to further push citizens to suicidal state.
Many farmers of the country committed suicide due to BJP government's anti-farmer policy in the past and entire people of the country are now suffering due to price hike of goods including fuel and essential commodities, she added.
The BJP government is igniting fire among the youth by introducing Agnipath scheme and there is widespread protest against the scheme throughout the country.
However, the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is maintaining stoic silence, she said while posing as to how could youth be forced to join defence service without job security.
She also said that Congress party was compelled to the launch protest against Ag-nipath scheme to save the country.
The protest was also joined by office bearers of Patsoi Block Congress Committee, Patsoi Block Mahila Congress Committee, Imphal West District Congress Committee and Congress workers.
Our Thoubal correspondent informed that similar sit-in-protest demonstrations against Agnipath scheme were held widely in Thoubal district on Monday as per advice of MPCC.
Thoubal District Congress Committee, Thoubal Block Congress Committee, Heirok Block Congress Commit tee, Lilong Block Congress Committee, Yairipok Block Congress Committee and Khangabok Block Congress Committee organised sit-inprotests at their respective jurisdictions.
Nambol Block Congress Committee also organised protest against Agnipath scheme on Monday in front of its office at Nambol Chingmang.
According to our Bishnupur correspondent, the protestors held placards reading 'Agnipath is fraud scheme', 'Agnipath will spoil the morale of youth', 'No pension, no future, only tension', 'Roll back Agnipath scheme', 'Scrap Agnipath scheme', 'Stop militarisation of the nation', 'Agnipath anti-nationalAct', 'BJPGovt betrays youth', 'Agnipath will destroy unity of the nation' and 'Agnipath a complete dishonour of Indian Armed Forces' during the protest staged under the supervision of MPCC.
Kakching Block Congress Committee also organised protest against Agnipath scheme at the BCC office at Kakching Keithel.
MPCC member and former INC candidate of Kakching AC Ksh Kennedy, BCC vice-presidents Md Gayasuddin, Ph Hemanta, secretary Leishangthem Brojen, Block Mahila Congress Committee Kakching president Moirangthem Pishak and others participated in the protest.
Wabagai Block Congress Committee organised a similar protest at Irong Cheshaba Bazar.
Ex-MLA Md Fajur Rahim participated in the protest.
